I really would get used to EZD before tackling SD2 unless you’ve got the money, lots of time and a hunger to learn. I choose by song rather than genre, although I will trawl the metal pack sounds if I’m involved with that genre as much modern metal can be formulaic “Rock!” might be a good start-point, take a listen there. There are usually at least five example tracks or grooves on each TT page for EZX libraries, take a listen and see if anything jumps out at you. Have a look at “The Classic”, “Vintage Rock”, “DFH”, “Rock!” (This is a good all-rounder), “Rock Solid” if you like really big sounds, and then the three metal packs. It can be a bit of a misnomer, because (eg) the sounds of TMF can be used in many other Genres (and there’s a big range of instruments).Īs for your music choices above, you’ve covered quite a range yourself. Metal? Tight sounds with extended freq ranges, punchy, clicky kicks, tonal snares (think character, but controlled), short and controlled (not so tonal) brassware inc chinas and lots of it and big room sounds]. What exactly makes a drum “metal”? Do they have midi grooves that are more metal oriented? Something about the drums themselves? The way the recorded samples are hit?

Slightly off topic, curious about the drumkit from hell and Metal Foundry (maybe another one I’m forgetting) expansions. So again, can Superior help with all that? Same with the hats.one thing I’m missing, I believe, is the sound of it being hit when open and then closed suddenly to choke it off (used often on the “and” beat as in 1 and 2 and 3 and 4). Something more objective is that there was more variety in the type of hits for each instruments I really wish the cymbals had crashes that were choked off at various note lengths, rather than just going on forever. Cymbals also seem a little weird, the higher pitched crash cymbal seems a little off pitch-wise from where it should be, according to what I hear in “real” rock songs).ĭoes superior have samples that solve these issues or is down to mixing skill? Same deal with the snares (I often want a more “sizzley” snare and feel I use hi hat hits more often than I should to compensate for that lack of high end).

I fully realize this could be my lack of mixing knowledge coming into play here. For heavier rock/metal, I feel like the kicks, for instance are a little weak, seem to get lost in the mix many times, rather than having a lot of “sizzle” or higher frequency impact. Let me tell you the main issues I have with EZ: One thing is that many times the available drums just don’t sound/feel right for what I’m trying to do. I am an amateur/hobbyist musician who uses the program to create drum tracks from scratch ’cause I don’t play drums or know a drummer. for a while, thinking of upgrading to Superior.
